Lawyer turned network marketing guru Jazze Jervis on changing life paths and finding your passion

Describe your business in a few words?

I am obsessed with network marketing and my mission is to guide female network marketers into a new paradigm where network marketing is seen as THE most popular way to create financial abundance.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

When I first started my career as a lawyer, I was super ambitious. I had every intention of climbing the corporate ladder and securing a Partnership position. I quickly realised, after having my first daughter, that this would require sacrifice. Now… I’m totally ok with sacrifice and believe it is a part of our growth. However, I wasn’t prepared to sacrifice the decline in my health, or the significant time away from my family.

At the time, I had been looking for other income streams. I’d considered opening my own boutique (lover of fashion) but quickly realised that the overheads and immediate need to quit my corporate job wasn’t something that appealed either.

At the same time, I was having a challenging time as a mum dealing with child care illnesses and lack of sleep. I started using essential oils and immediately LOVED them. It didn’t take much for me to become interested in the business opportunity given the huge flexibility and scalability. The rest is history!

What was your background prior to starting your own business?

I was a lawyer! I also played basketball at a high level for most of my life!

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

No. I’ve always been very ambitious and have an insane level of unwavering belief. Very rarely do I second-guess decisions and so I’ve always had a lot on my plate and been trying new things. However being an entrepreneur was never on my radar!

Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?

Oooo great question! When I first started my business, I was laser focused on nailing who I was looking to attract into my business, speaking solely to them through my content, being very consistent and collaborating like a boss. In the first 8 months, I created a 6 figure business and it was literally because I was EVERYWHERE! The best part? It was all free! For the first 18 months, I had some form of collaboration every few weeks and it really helped with brand awareness and I attracted customers and business partners into my network marketing business quickly.

We always learn the most from our mistakes, share a time with us that you made a mistake or had a challenging time in business and what you learned from it?

Being obsessed with fast success. I am a Manifesting Generator in Human Design, insane unwavering belief, a very supportive husband who tells me to go for it whenever I have an idea… and while that is all fantastic, it can absolutely lead to being obsessed with fast growth. In reality, the reason I left my corporate job is because I felt more lit up by the work I do now and I have more freedom. And while I love my work, I can be in flow and prioritise my health and my family AND still have a wildly successful business!

What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?

Building to seven figures in 3 years and having three separate businesses that I wholeheartedly believe in and love spending time in every single day!

What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?

I am so passionate about the work I do with network marketers inside my Ascension Mastermind™ and it’s absolutely my focus over the next few years to get the message out there to NWM’s that there is another way to do business! One that is fun, feels energising and most importantly, isn’t icky! One that involves attracting your ideal customer, instead of cold-call ‘recruiting’. One that involves building a brand, not just asking your friends and family if they want to buy from you. One that will lead to many more business opportunities and multiple income streams (so smart!) Did I mention I’m passionate? LOL!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in 2020?

Diversifying both income and investments. 2020 showed us that anything can happen and I for one was so grateful that I had already started building an online business because I can literally work from anywhere. Not only that, I have multiple income streams which reduces my exposure to financial impacts. This is so important to me as the majority bread-winner in my family and someone who is self-employed! We also started diversifying our investments too – property, shares, crypto and even fashion (might have just sneakily justified this to my husband as ‘investments’ – lol)!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were first starting your business?

That there’s no rush… there’s always enough time…

How have you managed to stay grounded this year?

I have radical boundaries! I am super protective of my time and energy which is the single most important thing to me when it comes to staying grounded. I grew my team in 2020 and I made sure I did that BEFORE I actually needed someone. This meant I was hiring from a place of spaciousness, gratitude and not from panic! I have support in my home, from my family, from my husband. I only take calls on Tuesday afternoon – Thursday so that Monday can be spent setting intentions, Tuesday is spent doing and Friday is just for me. I can choose to work or I can choose to give back to me. Either way, it’s what I need to stay grounded and present as an entrepreneur!

Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?

I’m not a huge fan of the word ‘balance’ but I do believe that we can be in flow AND have a business that is in a massive growth phase.

My tips include:

Organize your schedule in alignment with the Ruling Planets. E.g. I have a big work day on Tuesday so that I can capitalize on that Mars energy which is great for focus and execution. Friday is a Venus day and so there’s no calls – this is a day for pleasure, self-care and giving back to me!

Flow living! I also align my schedule/nutrition/exercise as best as I can with my cycle (and also with the lunar cycle which has the same 4 corresponding phases) because I know that the less I do and the more I honor my body and my energy, the more money I make!

Setting radical boundaries! E.g. when I am working, I am working (and I don’t feel bad about it). When I am mum-ing, I am mumi-ing (and I don’t feel bad about it).

Infrared saunas! One of the best things I ever did was invest in a Clearlight infrared sauna for our house and it’s the best ever!!! So amazing to detox my body so that I can perform optimally as an entrepreneur and it’s the best wind down activity ever!

Regular chiro appointments – our spine is SO IMPORTANT! It not only affects our physical health but the messages our brain receives (or lack thereof). Very important for an entrepreneur!

What’s something our audience would be surprised to learn about you?

I rarely watch movies I haven’t seen before. I prefer to watch things I’ve already seen because there’s no opportunity cost of not liking it haha!

What are your top 3 tips to stay productive each day?

Set intentions at the start of each week so you know what you are working towards.

Have healthy snacks/meals ready so you’re not distracted because you’re hungry or needing to make things.

Set up your space – water/essential oils/tarot cards etc.

BONUS TIP – turn all notifications OFF and don’t have your emails open!

What does being an Entreprenista mean to you?

Being an Entreprenista means showing other women and female entrepreneurs what’s possible. I am ambitious. I have a lot of self-belief. But I’m not smart. Truly. I just work hard and find the people who know more than me and hire them or engage them to teach me. If I can do it, anyone can, and I want to lead the way for other female entrepreneurs to do the same!
