Leeanna Gantt of Tooktake on an effective way to keep track of medications
Describe your business in a few words:
Hi! I am Leeanna, the founder, and CEO of tooktake dosage reminder labels.
I invented tooktake during my chemo treatment for breast cancer to help me and my family keep track of my many medications, most of which weren’t pills.
When I was done with my year of treatment, I still had one little pill I had to take every day. But even though this pill was keeping me healthy, I just couldn’t remember most days if I took it or still needed to take it!
That’s when I knew that I was onto something with tooktake. It was simple, easy to use, wouldn’t be expensive, and gave me so much peace of mind knowing I was doing my best to stay well.
Since launching tooktake, I have found so many other people like me with various chronic health conditions, everything from acne to anxiety and high cholesterol to allergies, who have something that they need to use or take on a regular basis that keeps them well.
They don’t want an old person looking at a pillbox or anything that makes them feel stigmatized, old, or ill.
One of the best parts of tooktake is that it works on all forms of medication and supplements, not just pills! So, moms are especially fond of tooktake because now there is an easy way to keep track of all those kids’ liquid meds, lotions, and vitamins.
Tooktake is also great for pet owners : )
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I was an advertising creative director for a long time. Then I was Executive director of a charity for 8 years, and I also had a community arts studio for a few years called Tinker.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
I don’t think so, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
I thought if I built my website I would be so overwhelmed with orders that I wouldn’t know what to do. But that didn’t happen at all. Since then, I have mostly been doing organic social media. I had one super bad and expensive experience with a PR company.
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
Getting into Walmart and CVS.
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
I do believe in work-life balance. For me, each day isn’t necessarily balanced, but I aim for a balanced week.
What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?
Getting tooktake into Walmart and CVS stores has been a lot of work, and I am really proud to have accomplished that 🙂
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
More retailers! Maybe a distributor? I am still trying to get tooktake into all kinds of retail spaces and not just pharmacies.
I would love to help people of all ages not feel stigmatized for having to take a medication or supplement to get or stay well. I hope that tooktake can share the message of talking about what you need to do to get and feel well so that friends and family can support your efforts, whatever that wellness plan may be.
What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
Meeting other founders and learning as much as I can, then being able to share it with others who are starting out.
