Rachel Pereyra of Mastermind Business Services Agency on the importance of connections and building a team
Describe your business in a few words:
I am the queer founder of Mastermind Business Services Agency, an operations agency built to help other female and queer-founded businesses to generate a more significant impact on the world. I have over a decade of operations + leadership experience between corporate and the online spaces that I leverage to lead my team and help my clients achieve their goals. Outside of my work life, I am also a wife, a mother of two humans, and a pizza addict who lives just outside of Austin, Texas.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I have been in leadership roles since 2007. I worked my way up through retail and finance before transitioning into the online business world. Operations is a true passion of mine, and I have spent a lot of time honing my craft in various side hustles & freelancing roles as well.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
Nope! My dad is one and has always pushed me, but I thought I needed job security – the pandemic pulled that wool off my eyes, and there is no turning back.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
My marketing strategy at its core has always been in the connections. As Rachel Rodgers says, your network is your net worth – this has always proven to be the best investment for me and my business. The hardest part was getting clear on who I was targeting and what I was selling them.
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
I am a true connector and facilitator of opportunity for all the humans in my network. Growing my team, referring friends & colleagues, or generating new avenues for clients – this is when I am happiest.
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
There has to be a balance, but it is all seasons. You can’t take what you see on the gram and assume it’s real life. A lesson I heard a long time ago said that life is a juggling act, some balls are glass, and some are plastic – make sure the glass ones stay in the air because the plastic ones won’t break if you drop them.
What have you achieved recently that you’d like to celebrate with our community?
I have hired my 5th team member! I plan to hire an employee in the next 18 months, and I am so proud of my team!
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
I plan to grow the agency and add in corporate consulting clients and additional speaking and training bookings. Plan to see me create my foundation for young mothers and continue to create opportunities for historically marginalized folx whenever possible.
What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
I am excited about forming connections within a community of powerful female-driven businesses!
