Logan Rae on Her Journey to Founding a Digital Marketing Agency
Hi, Logan. Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
I’m Logan Rae, I’m 29 years old and Founder & CEO of Argon Agency.
Who are your customers?
Mid-size businesses mostly in the behavioral healthcare field.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
I had done entrepreneurship once before and sworn after I sold my company that it wasn’t for me. However, during COVID, the company I was working for violated my values and I left unexpectedly to start the agency. I had spent a few years working C-level roles and saw the huge gap most organizations face when employing a strong marketing and operations team. I decided this would be the gap we’d fill.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
I wanted to work in medicine. I wanted to be a surgeon. I studied as far as getting to medical school and due to personal circumstances, school became a challenge to continue. I have always felt drawn to the creativity that business operations and marketing allow. I love to solve problems and learn as much as I can about market leaders to implement and improve ideas.
Take us back to when you first launched your business; what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
I have spent my entire career sharing tidbits of my day-to-day including projects I was proud of and data for campaigns I successfully conducted. This began to create a natural flow of demand and we actually still have yet to market ourselves. The most we’ve done is a podcast and some features like this to led validity and credibility to our methods.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way so far and what have you learned from it?
Hiring has been the hardest hurdle. Between the current attitude towards employment and lack of best practices determining who is a trustworthy hire had to be made using data rather than connection or how well they interviewed. I continually put myself in a predicament where I was begging someone to fulfill their job role obligations properly and instead of rising to the occasion it often became combative and I would receive personal attacks back (bashing everything from my personal aesthetic to the free office groceries we’d purchase weekly). I began to understand why larger corporations were particular in their hiring processes and more selective in their applicants. We began requiring proof of skill competency which has made the eligibility pool much smaller but has yielded us much higher quality employees.
What accomplishment are the most proud of to date in your business?
I’m incredibly proud of the groups we are able to help. There is nothing more rewarding than being a contributor to hitting a goal that changes the lives of their employees, patients/clients, or community.
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
We are working on creating a SaaS aimed at smooth operations. We believe this will be revolutionary for the industry as a whole.
What is your top productivity tip?
Time block. Plan and stick to it. Invest the time it takes to communicate to those around you that planning is essential and then allow them to help you keep on task. I have extreme ADHD and as long as my day is well planned I’m able to follow along. I keep an organized box of focus essentials easily accessible and have an assistant to monitor my pace to ensure I’m not drifting. This was a game changer for my productivity.
Those are such helpful tips! On the flip side, how do you avoid burnout?
Again, time block. Plan and stick to it. You know what you’re heading into and what you need to accomplish during the time you’ve set aside. It can keep you focused instead of running in circles while deadlines accumulate. I also think it’s very important to lean in whenever you can. Build a team that is familiar with supporting each other and create a dedicated time block for this interaction. It helps with brainstorming, boosting productivity, cross-training, relieving some of the workload, keeping everyone up to date etc.
What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?
I don’t think I have a strong answer for this. I love the knowledge I’ve acquired along the way and being able to reflect on what I didn’t know is part of the magic.
That is the perfect answer, Logan! We love that you’ve grown as an entrepreneur. When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?
If you were a software which program would you be?
Are you a Mamaprenista? If so, please share your best advice for simultaneously managing a business and a family:
This is a hard one. My son always comes first but I believe crossing my work ethic with my family values has also helped him grow into a well-adjusted young man. I think the best bit of advice I can share is to accept help, communicate with your child openly about your experiences, and manage your finances to where you create generational wealth for them in a way they understand and respect.
What is your favorite business tool or solution and why?
I love Hubstaff. It’s great for team management and project oversight. When used correctly it’s a powerhouse.
