Founder Geisha Garcia on the Evolution of GG Communications
Please share a brief introduction about yourself and your business:
Geisha Garcia is the Founder of GG Communications, LLC—a digital marketing agency dedicated to elevating the digital presence of ambitious female-led brands through proven digital marketing strategies, as well as advancing the profession of social media through mentorship and education of social media professionals.
What excites you about being an Entreprenista League member?
Expanding my network of entrepreneurs because support from like-minded individuals is key when running your own business.
What made you take the leap to start your own business?
I wish I had a motivational answer, but I was being furloughed from my 9-5 for a few weeks because of Covid. I started freelancing, and it evolved into a real business.
What was your background prior to starting your own business?
I have been in traditional 9-5 roles in communications ranging from traditional marketing to internal communications to digital marketing for the past 15 years.
Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
It never crossed my mind, and I did not know I had it in me.
Take us back to when you first launched your business, what was your marketing strategy to get the word out and did it go as planned?
Since I have an extensive digital marketing background, I decided to use Instagram to market my business, and it did go as planned. However, as my brand evolves and grows and as the social media landscape evolves as well, so does my marketing strategy.
What is the biggest challenge you have encountered along the way and what did you learn from it?
Not seeking advice from those who have achieved the goals I want to achieve sooner. Mentorship and coaching are incredibly important in making strides in your business.
What is the accomplishment you are the most proud of to date?
Hiring my first part-time employee and providing a source of income to someone other than myself.
Do you believe in work/life balance? What are some of your best tips?
I absolutely, do and it’s something we need to be very intentional about when starting a business. My best tip is to schedule self-care, whatever it is to you, into your calendar and make it a non-negotiable. Be generous with it as well.
What’s a piece of advice you can share that you wish you’d known when you first started your Entreprenista journey?
If you want to move the needle, invest in any area of your business that is not your zone of genius.
What’s next for your business? What can we expect to see over the next few years?
One of the biggest missions at GG Communications is to advance the social media profession. I’m working on a course for social media professionals who want to establish their own businesses. The curriculum will give them knowledge and tools to go from freelancer to brand.
