Tips for Business Owners When Joining a New Platform

We all knew the day would come! A new platform to compete with Twitter. As a business owner it can feel overwhelming when new social media platforms launches. Our first thought is usually, “not another new platform, how will we have the time?” or “ Who will manage it and does it even make sense for my business?”

We are breaking down our thoughts on Threads and how you can just get started on the platform!

Step 1 – Just Start!

Grab your handle and make your profile. It’s simple and easy on Threads as it’s almost plug and play with your instagram profile.

We know new platforms may bring fear and uncertainty, but it’s time to put your fears aside and embrace the opportunity to have fun and just start! By having fun with Threads, businesses can steer away from the traditional corporate image and filtered photos. Watch what other brands and your customers are doing on the platform and jump in on the conversations. You don’t need a strategy yet as this next week is the time to really jump in and play around. Test sharing content and see what resonates.  Share behind the scenes glimpses of your day to day operations, highlight your company’s culture, and most importantly, connect with your followers. Remember, every follower is a real person and could be a potential customer! A platform, like Threads, offers a space for businesses to experiment and now is the time in the early days.

Step 2 – Observe and Engage

The best way to learn a new platform is to jump on it, play around, and see how others are using it. How are people interacting, how are brands behaving? Spend time observing and then get in on the action. You don’t need to build a full strategy on day one as this platform is too young. Time will tell what long term user engagement will be. In the beginning of a platform launch, there’s a lot of opportunity to build your audience quickly and show that you are an early adopter as a brand, but it doesn’t mean you need to have your Thread strategy built out for the next month or year. No one does! The best way to learn is to use the platform. We could share a step by step guide here but if you know how to use Twitter and Instagram, you will figure it out quickly by just playing around on the platform.

Step 3 – Grow Your Audience

Let your instagram followers know that you are now on threads and invite them to join you over there. You can share in your story or in a post on Instagram that you are now on threads.  Here’s what we posted as our first thread on Entreprenista, and we certainly got the party started! There was no plan, it was all authentic with our goal of genuinely connecting with other founders so we can provide resources and as much value to our community of founders.

See below for some of the excitement we are seeing about Threads and let us know your thoughts! The possibilities are truly endless with Threads right now. And remember, the key is to have fun and just start!
